Louann Motley Barker was a true Texas lady, born in Dallas, Texas on Oct. 8, 1934. A descendent of true Texas pioneers, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953. She went on to attend Southern Methodist University, majoring in Art. Places that she lived included Jackson, MS and New Orleans, LA. While living in New Orleans, she developed her skills at French cooking. Louann was a great cook and specialized in southern and southwest dishes such as pecan pie, chicken and dumplings, tacos, dressing, and fried chicken. Louann worked as a food demonstrator for the Borden Company. Other hobbies and interests that she loved included art, music, football, fashion, plants and gardening, education, nutrition, missions, and religion. Louann spent many hours talking about issues of the day over cups of coffee with friends and family. Though Louann had many loves in her life, the most important love to her was for her Heavenly Father. She often talked about Jesus and her home in Heaven through His grace, and shared this with everyone. Her spirit was full of grit, determination, love, humor, and generosity and this inspired her family and many friends throughout her life. She is greatly missed and leaves a legacy, but also a hole in our hearts until we can see her again in Heaven.
Louann is preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Motley; her aunt and uncle, Frankie and Slats Riggs; her sister, Virgie Wallett; and her son, Thomas Motley. Louann is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Barker, and son-in-law, David Godwin, as well as many friends. We miss her greatly.
One of Louann’s true passions involved building water wells in Africa. To donate in her name, please visit Life Outreach International, https://lifetoday.org.
