Louise Ann Potter

Louise Ann Potter

Born April 12, 1942 and entered the arms of her Lord after a lifetime of service and love on November 4, 2019.

From a young age, Louise knew that she wanted two things in life: to be a mother and to be a nurse. She was blessed to fulfill both of these vocations — as well as that of ‘grandmother’ — and approached them with common sense, quick wit, and an indomitable spirit that made her a force to be reckoned with.

Born in New London, Conn., Louise was a New Englander at heart, and always loved the Atlantic Ocean that shaped her childhood. She moved to Texas in the mid-1960s and readily embraced her adopted home, but only became a Dallas Cowboys fan late in life.

She was a talented craftswoman and artist who sewed, knitted, crocheted, and cross-stitched beautiful and practical gifts for her family, friends, and strangers — including scrubs for fellow healthcare professionals and layette sets for premature and stillborn infants.

She was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and a volunteer with the Dallas Scottish Society. She also crafted costumes for the theater department at Bishop Lynch High School, where her children and one of her granddaughters attended school.

Louise displayed great courage and faith despite many physical trials, and never wavered in her resolve to help those around her.

Louise was predeceased by her loving parents, Louis Agustus and Elizabeth Ann Round, as well as her sister Nancy (Jim) Marsh.

She is survived by her children: Mike (Liz) Potter and Cathy (Mike) Cooney; grandchildren Heather Potter, William Cooney, Tory (Ian) Blodger, and Katy (David) Potter; nephews Robert and James Marsh; and a host of friends.

“I’m not a very special person with any special events around me,” Louise wrote. “But when I look at my children and grandchildren – then I feel special, because I see how blessed I am by all that God has bestowed on me.”

The world is a better place for having her in it and we rejoice with the heavens that welcome her home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the SPCA of Texas — where Louise met her beloved canine companion's Louie and Lucky — or another charity of your choosing.

Louise was a very special lady and I loved being her neighbor. She welcomed me to the neighborhood when I moved in when I met my husband. I will remember her on my birthday as we shared the same birth date. I will always treasure our "porch talks" where we spent many hours solving the problems of the world and neighborhood. Looking across the street at her house will always bring back fond memories. I will miss her dearly but I am happy that she is no longer in pain.

Prayers to the Potter family

I did not know Louise very well. But. As my girls were her daughter's dance students, getting to know Cathy over the years, we saw a fine person in her, so Louise, you did well.

Louise was like a second mother to me. I loved her dearly. Not only was I fortunate enough to have formed a deep friendship with Louise, I was also close to Cathy, who was in my wedding.

These types of friendships do not come along often. I will always treasure these memories.

Heaven has a new angel who is smiling down on us.

Love and prayers to the entire Potter family,

Mary Louise
