

Mary Jean Young was born in Dallas, Texas on October 29th, 1942 to her parents John Henry (Buck-frank) & Mary Etola Watson. She was one of eight siblings.- John Henry, Joan, Linda, Robert, Alice, Billy and Kathy.
She married Sims Edward Young, better known as Junior on August 2nd, 1958. They were married for almost 49 years before he passed.
She has 3 beautiful kids, Donna, Susan and Sims Jr. and in-laws Gene, Jerry and Kim;
6 amazing Grandkids; Amy, Shelley, Becky, Stefanie, Katie and J.R.
6 Great-Grandkids; Garrett, Cody, Jacob, Miranda, Liam and Jonathan.
Mary loved to bowl, she was on a bowling league called “Sweet-thangs” at Big Town Bowling Alley. Her brother Billy would set up bowling tournaments with trophies.
Mary would have the best themed parties at her house on Cordova ranging from Western theme to a throwback 50’s themes.
Mary loved watching her General Hospital everyday and sometimes twice a day. You were not allowed to call her while her show was on.
Mary, known as Nanna, to her grandkids, would have “Vacation with Nanna” every Summer for a week. Nanna loved her grandkids, they were her pride and joy! They would go swimming in the backyard, go bowling, shopping, and act out a dance routine for music videos. We would drive around in her blue cadillac rocking the song of the year. Nanna would make her hot chocolate from scratch on the stove. On one of the vacations, Sims started a mud fight in the backyard with the grandkids and Katie was always the first to cry. They made a huge mess of the yard. After that mud fight, Junior and Mary covered that spot with concrete pavers.
She looked forward to her Wednesday night dinners. She took great pride in having her family over every week to cook amazing meals such as her chicken and dumplings, goulash or pineapple cake. When it was someone’s birthday, it was be extra special for them. Mary would even buy snickers for her grandkids on report card day.
She loved to go to the Casinos with her sisters. She also loved going to get her nails done with them. Her and her sister would go shopping every Thursday at the Thift Store.
She also loved going to Cedar Creek Lake with her family. She hosted and started the “Pee-Wee Horseshoe Tournament” back in 1988 for all of the kids from ages 3-13. She would have candy, dill pickles, and trophies and prizes for all of the kids.
One day at Cedar Creek Lake, the guys were trying to bring down a dead tree. They kept trying and trying till Mary told them to move over. She took a running leap and knocked the tree down. From that day forward, she was also known as “Moose.”
Mary loved her family and all of the long standing traditions they have. She was proud that she was the first Mrs. Congeniality in the CPC back in 1967. She took pride in keeping the traditions going. Mary loved going to the State Fair of Texas every year on Opening day with her many of her family members. They even had matching Tshirts made each year.
Mary was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching the games with her son, Sims. She watched all of their games and her all time favorite quarterback was Roger Staubach. She enjoyed placing $1 bets on those games as well.
Mary spent her last few years living with her daughter, Susie & son-in-law, Jerry, and J.R., where they took care of her everyday. There, she would enjoy spending afternoons with her great-grandson, Liam. They would sing in their band called “The Shakers.” She would play the air-guitar and piano while Liam would sing. Mary loved having all of her family come to visit with her.
Her family last celebrated her 75th birthday this past October and she was overwhelmed with joy. She loved her huge family.
Mary was known as a wonderful wife, mother, Nanna, sister and friend. She will be truly missed by all.
