

Norma Jean Parker-New, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, April 15, 2022 in Fort Worth, Texas after a traumatic fall. Norma battled Alzheimer’s for over eight years.
Norma was born October 14, 1937 to Fred and Irene Parker in Bloomburg, Texas. Norma and her family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico when she was a teen. She graduated from high school in 1956. In Carlsbad, Norma met the love of her life, Gene New. Gene was in Carlsbad on military leave from the Army. After a short time, they knew they would spend their lives together and for over two years they corresponded through letters. They married in January, 1958 after Gene was discharged from the Army. They moved to the Dallas area and started their family.
They built a home in Rockwall in 1986. Norma took pride in her beautiful home and created gorgeous gardens which she enjoyed greatly. Norma loved Jesus and attending church. She was a generous and loving person, a wonderful cook and she loved doing puzzles. She enjoyed helping with their grandchildren, caring for her dogs, watching old movies, bowling and shopping.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, W. E. New (Gene), her parents, her older brother Charles Parker and younger sister Dorothy Milam, daughter-in-law Donna New, and grandson Barry Lee Ashley.
Norma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Ashley of Haslet, Texas; son, David New of Mesquite, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Deborah New of Rowlett, Texas; and son, Derek New of Royse City, Texas. Grandchildren: Chanci, Kaci, David Carroll, Kimberley, Candi, Jennifer, Heather, Hayden, Jacob, Chris, and Nick, and twelve great grandchildren.
Norma will be laid to rest at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with her husband Gene.
A visitation for Norma will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, TX 75149. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 1111 Military Pkwy, Mesquite, TX 75149. A committal service will occur Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 9:15 AM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
