Royce served in the United States Navy during WW II as a Navy Machinist First Class. He earned the Presidential Navy Unit Citation for bravery in battle, a Good Conduct medal, a WWII victory medal, an American Campaign medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, a European – African- and Middle East medal, a Bronze Star, and a Combat Action Ribbon. He married Billie Nell Horne in 1947 and the couple had one child. She was a schoolteacher at Seller’s Middle School in Garland, Texas where she worked for more than 25 years.
In his spare time Royce enjoyed country dancing to Bob Wills music, making homemade ice cream – you could have any flavor you wanted as long as it was vanilla.
His friends and family will always remember him as the life of the party who never missed a family reunion, wedding, or memorial for those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, siblings Berniece Townsend, Raymond David, Stewart David, and Jody David; and also his wife Billie Nell David.
Royce is survived by his daughter Donna Lovelace and husband James; grandson Christopher McGinty; siblings and spouses Carroll Dean and Judy David, and Patsy and Vernon Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.
