Ada attended public schools in New Orleans, graduating from McDonough 35 in June 1949. That summer, the American Red Cross sent Ada to Nashville, TN, where she completed a water safety program. She completed the program and worked for NORD for several summers as a water safety and swimming instructor. She also attended Xavier University.
She later worked at a local sewing factory and for the City of New Orleans as a Deputy Court Clerk. She retired from the Court in 1993 after 27 years.
In November of 1953, Ada Mae married Sidney J. Anderson. They were blessed with the birth of their only child, Cheryl R. Anderson.
Ada chaired many programs at her lifelong church, St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church. The Sunday School Easter pageant was one of her favorite activities. Her greatest joy was giving service to God, for He had greatly blessed her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sidney J. Anderson, three brothers: George Roussell, Edward Roussell Jr., and Norward Roussell; and two sisters: Dorothy Mae Roussell and Helen Roussell.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl R. Anderson, Grandson Marvas McCladdie; three nieces; Vanessa L. Roussell, Melanie N. Roussell Newman (Ronnie), three nephews; Michael K. Roussell (Ellie), Eric M. Roussell (Mina), Norman D. Roussell(Dion), and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
