Armando is preceded in death by his parents Alipio P. Evangelista and Susana Suratos Evangelista as well as by four siblings.
Armando was born in Mangaldan, Pangasinan in the Philippines. He was the youngest of seven siblings. He served in the Armed Forces of the Philippines for several years before joining the Philippine Merchant Marines.
During his ship's visit to New Orleans, LA, he met and later married Sonja Neves and naturalized as a U.S. citizen. Two children were born of their union Susanna Marino née Evangelista and Armando Evangelista Jr.
Armando continued to work as a U.S. merchant marine as he loved being on the water and traveling. He enjoyed basketball, playing with his grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to dance at a party.
As a devout Catholic, he attended mass several times a week and lived a life of giving, selflessness, and helping others. He fervently brought donations to St. Benilde Church to help stock the St. Vincent De Paul food pantry.
Armando is survived by his former spouse Sonja Evangelista; their children, Susanna E. Marino (Gary), and Armando Evangelista Jr. (Soleil); and grandchildren, Amari Evangelista, Roman Marino, Alonna Evangelista, Armando Charles Evangelista, and Enzo Marino.
Armando's surviving Filipino family includes two siblings; Lydia Manganoon and Ephren Evangelista (Victoria) as well as a myriad of nieces and nephews around the world.
The Evangelista Family would like to express our sincere gratitude to East Jefferson General Hospital 5th Floor ICU Team, EJ Pastoral Care, and the many family and friends who visited and prayed for Armando during his hospitalization.
Family, friends, parishioners of St. Benilde and Society of St. Vincent De Paul are to attend the visitation that will be held at St Benilde Catholic Church, 1901 Division St, Metairie, Louisiana 70001, on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial following services will take place at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70119.
