

Benny Patrick Hanner went Home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, July 10, 2013 at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving daughters. He was a native of New Orleans born on March 17, 1932. He was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather that had a love for fishing, farming and his antique car. He is survived by his daughters, Robin Hanner Major and Suzanne Hanner Lambert; his son-in law, Bruce Lambert; and granddaughters, Jessica Angelle Lambert, Wendi Nicole Major, Brooke Hannah Lambert, and Emily Kaye Major. He is also survived by his sister Mary Hirdes ; his brothers Carroll Joseph Hanner, and Alfred Anthony Hanner, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years Hazel Hennington Hanner; his parents, Corrine Goux Gerthro and Barney Matthew Hanner, Sr.; his brother, Barney Matthew Hanner, Jr.; his step sister, Mildred Christine Ziegler; and his grandson, Matthew B Lambert.
Benny was a native of New Orleans. He moved to Marksville for a brief period at the age of 8 then returned to New Orleans where he remained throughout his life. He served in the Naval Air Reserves as an airplane mechanic. He was an expert mechanic that began working for Beacon Auto Electric, Inc. and later opened Circle Auto Electric, Inc. on Baronne Street in 1964. Benny was a huge fishing enthusiast, and had a great love for his farm, having harvested multitudes of vegetables for his family and friends annually. He also had a passion for antique cars and was a member of Horseless Carriage Car Club and the Early Ford V8 Club of America. Benny was a regular attender of Parkview Baptist Church in Metairie.
Benny was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA on Saturday July 13, 2013 at 11 am officiated by Dr. Bill Day of Parkview Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Following the service, interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
