Bernard Alvin Goldman

Bernard Alvin "Bernie" Goldman, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2011. Beloved husband of Shirley Bersadsky Goldman and loving brother of Ruth Goldman Asher (Adolph). Stepdaughter of Robin, Eddie and Ben Bronston (Micki). Proud grandfather of Sally, Lindsey and Ryan Bronston. Uncle of Harold Asher (Carol), Eilene Asher Spizer (Barry) and Marilyn Asher Kline (Joe) and great uncle of Allison and Jeffrey Asher, Steven, Mark (Adelaide) and Jason Spizer. Also survived by countless cousins and friends, including his best friend Gerald Strug.

Bernie was born January 11, 1928 in Bogalusa, LA, the son of Sadie and Jacob Goldman. He graduated from Bogalusa High School and attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After college, he returned to Bogalusa, where he helped run the family business, J. Goldman & Son, Inc., a women's specialty store. Bernie moved to New Orleans in the mid-1970's and married Sherley Bersadsky Bronston in 1977.

Bernie was a die-hard fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. He enjoyed cooking, lunching with friends, playing cards, going to horse races, traveling to Las vegas, talking on the phone and marveling at the accomplishments of his grandchildren and great niece and nephews.

Funeral services will take place Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 1:30 PM from Congregation Gates of Prayer, 4000 W. Esplanade Ave., Metairie with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM. Interment in Gates of Prayer Cemetery, 1411 Joseph Street, New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Gates of Prayer or Jewish Family Service Lifeling Program, 3330 W. Esplanade., Suite 600, Metairie, LA 70002. THARP-SONTHEIMER FUNERAL HOME of Metairie in charge of the arrangements.
