

Burton Lindau, M.D., of Metairie, Louisiana passed away on September 9, 2021 at the age of 95. He was born on July 21, 1926 in New Rochelle, New York but spent most of his childhood in Miami Beach, Florida. As the youngest of three children, Burton enjoyed photography, spending time with his siblings, and excelling in his studies. Burton and his wife, Margie, were married for over forty years. They met in Charity Hospital of New Orleans in 1949. Together, they occasionally camped in Colorado and took joy in raising several dogs. He graduated from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1950. Burton selflessly served as an ophthalmologist in Africa for over twenty-five years. He also served as the president of Eyes for Africa from 1955 -1988. Margie worked alongside Burton as a nurse throughout his career. After living in Nigeria, Burton and Margie moved to South Africa where they lived for several years before moving to Australia. In 2010, Burton returned to Louisiana following Margie’s death. Burton is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Amy Lindau; brother, Warren Lindau; and wife, Margie Lindau. He is survived by his sister, Doris Brand of Houston, and several nieces and nephews. Burton will be laid to rest in Salem Fields Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
