Catherine Alice Capozza was called home to her eternal reward on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 9:53 PM. She was 98 years old. She was the beloved mother of Cathy Ann Cannizzaro, who was her only child and who was so very blessed by God to have her. She was the daughter of the late Mary Palmisano Capozza and Anthony Capozza, Jr. and the sister of the late Anthony Capozza, III.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her nephew, Anthony Capozza IV; her Goddaughter, Susan Falcone Bourgeois and second cousins from the Falcone family. She was also the Godmother of the late Vincent Falcone, Jr.
Catherine was a beautiful, loving, and amazing mother and woman. She always put her family first. She touched all the lives of the people that knew her.
Catherine had a lengthy career. She started out working for RKO Theatres as a secretary. She went on to do secretarial work for the Civil Service Commission. Her daughter was born in 1948. After a leave of absence, she returned to doing work for the Government, this time as a secretary for the Department of Health. During this assignment, she was asked to transfer out of state. She declined this offer as she wanted to stay in New Orleans. It was at this time she was employed by D.H. Holmes Co., Ltd. as Secretary to the Vice President and Controller. This position lasted 32 years with the D.H. Holmes family. After her retirement, she returned to work - this time as the secretary for the Sales and Catering Department at Sheraton Airport Hotel for 10 years until they changed hands. She then went to work as the secretary for a food broker, F.M. Carriere & Son, LLC for 13 years. This was the last position she held. She was forced to retire at age 80 when Hurricane Katrina Hit. Her daughter and she had to evacuate to Wichita Falls, Texas. They had lost everything and resided in Texas for 2 years until they were able to return to their native New Orleans.
Catherine was good to her family and friends and to all who knew her. Her daughter is so proud of her as a person and proud of all her life accomplishments. She will be sorely missed.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. De Paula, Dr. Pretus, Dr. Carradine and Dr. Juarbe of East Jefferson Hospital, who gave her excellent, skilled, and compassionate medical care during her last days. Special thanks to the entire staff and clergy of East Jefferson Hospital who worked together as a team.
