Cecilia (Celie) Gedoria Casrill Nadeau, age 87, entered into heaven on January 24, 2011, surrounded by family and friends in Harahan, Louisiana, following a battle with cancer and pneumonia. Mrs. Nadeau was born in New Orleans in 1923 to Inocincio and Camelia Gedoria. She married Charles H. Casrill in 1943 with whom she reared their 2 daughters. As a young widow she married a widower, Oscar H. Nadeau, and welcomed his 3 sons into her life.
Mrs. Nadeau began her teaching profession at Perpetual Help Elementary School in the 1950’s. She then became one of Jefferson Parish public school’s first special education teachers. She progressed into administration and became principal at Bannekar Elementary, Waggaman, Helen Keller, and Deckbar schools before retiring in 1986. She received her BA degree from Tulane University, and her Masters +30 degrees from LSUNO. Upon her retirement as a principal, she became involved as a volunteer with the Salvation Army, Aquarium of the Americas, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. She also became a successful artist, with her work shown at the World Trade Center and other venues.
Preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and granddaughter Carmelita Dartez. Survived by her sister Riggie Welch and husband Bill, as well as her children: Cecilia Casrill Dartez and husband Jim, Gayle Casrill Andersson and husband Per-Owe, Maurice Nadeau and wife Darlene, Roger Nadeau and wife Ruth Ann; Rene Nadeau and wife Mary. Grandchildren: Kim Buchanan, Kroger Menzer, Karl Menzer, Estrelita Dartez, Jennifer Catalano, Patrice Downes, Jeff Nadeau, Kyle Nadeau, Lindsay Nadeau, Leia Loveday, and Genafer Veenstra. Great Grandchildren: Stephen, Brittanie, Brendan, Bradley, Sophie, Bobby, Camilla, Kalli, Rowan, Abbigail, John, Olivia, Aden, Gavin, and David.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, on Thursday morning January 27, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment will be private. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until time of services. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, www.salvationarmy.org.
