

Cheryl Lee Fegert, age 76, passed away on June 30, 2022, in Metairie, Louisiana, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Cheryl was born January 31, 1946, in Bay City, Michigan, to parents George J Fegert and Nellie Mae (Penny) Fegert. Cheryl was the eldest of four children and is survived by Ford J Fegert (wife, Ginger), of Vero Beach, Florida; Carol J Fegert, of Metairie, Louisiana; and Forrest J Fegert (wife Anne) of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Cheryl graduated from Bay City’s T. L. Handy High School, in 1964 and was a proud Wildcat. Cheryl was active in a variety of activities while in high school, but none brought her more enjoyment than her music and art. Cheryl played piano for personal enjoyment, as well as the clarinet and bassoon in the Handy High marching and symphony bands, respectively. Cheryl was particularly proud of her award-winning Halloween poster contest entry which was commissioned to be recreated as window art on Washington Avenue.
Cheryl was a Youth For Understanding exchange program student, enjoying placement with a family in Finland. Cheryl brought home several host family and traditional Finnish recipes, with which she delighted family and friends. Cheryl, and family, hosted several exchange students in their Bay City home, including youths from Mexico, Uruguay, and Finland
Cheryl attended Delta College before moving to New Orleans with her family, where she continued her education. Cheryl studied art at renowned Sophie Newcomb College.
Cheryl purchased the famous Judy’s Pies shop in Linwood Michigan; a location known and loved by many who transited the area on their way north to Michigan’s vacationland, just as she had done as a youth. Cheryl enjoyed camping and canoeing in particular. Some of her favorite camping adventures, in addition to those with family or friends, were at YWCA Camp Maqua, as well as at several Methodist church camps.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, George and Penny Fegert, and by her niece Brittany Fegert of Shreveport, who she loved dearly. In addition to her siblings, Cheryl is survived by her nieces and nephews, Alex, Geordie, Forrest, Madeline, Jordan and Abby, by three grandnieces and nephews, as well as by devoted family friend, Peter Gabb.
A private family memorial will be scheduled in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a memorial service in Bay City, at a later date.
