Christy Walter Gerard Jr.

Christy Walter Gerard, Jr., age 88, passed away on his birthday, Thursday, January 12, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a native of New Orleans, LA, a longtime resident of Metairie, LA and a resident of Ponchatoula, LA for the past year. Beloved husband of 61 years to the late Evelyn Guillory Gerard. Father of Christy Paul Gerard (Lois Gerard), Michelle Gerard and David Gerard (Patricia Gerard). Grandfather of Adam, Zack and Kaitlyn. Great grandfather of Noah, Eli, Gabe, Gio, Landon and Lennox. Brother of Frank Gerard and the late Joyce Hotard. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Mr. Gerard was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired bus driver and meter man for NOPSI (Entergy), was a past parishioner of St. Ann Church and most recently was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church. Mr. Gerard loved to laugh and was quite the prankster. He was a very kindhearted person and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Mr. Gerard’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Lakeside Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Wednesday morning, January 18, 2023 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
