Dan Hall left this world on Thursday, December 21st 2017 at age 91 after a lengthy illness with prostate cancer. The small town of Quitaque, Texas was Dan’s birthplace in 1926, and he was the youngest of nine children. He had six brothers and two sisters. Five of Dan’s six brothers were active in World War II. Dan was trained in the Navy at USNTC and served in San Diego, CA. He is survived by his only living sibling Marie Atkisson of Abernathy, Texas; daughter, Danielle Hall; step-daughter Susan Lawson; grand-daughters: Noel Lawson, Brittany Roussel (Bart Roussel), Christine Toujouse (Jordan Toujouse) and three great-grandchildren. His parents were the late Victor and Cecil Mae Hall. He began working at age twelve folding newspapers for 15 to 25 cents per day. Then he began his piano career by knocking on doors and tuning pianos for $10. It was his great pleasure to rebuild pianos and share the gift of music with his customers. In 1958, Dan established the Hall Piano Company with his life-long friend and business partner, John Wright. He truly appreciated the thousands of customers who affectionately called him “Mr. Dan” and supported the great success of Hall Piano Company. After forty-three years, he sold his beloved business to Johnny Wright, Jr. and Steven Kinchen.
He enjoyed his life to the fullest with family and friends. His fondest memories included his first car, a 1931 Model A Ford that his Dad purchased for 50$, and his numerous travels around the world with his dear friends Ruth Eddey and Marilyn Wright. He knew what it was to be dirt poor and financially secure. His numerous charity endeavors were his priority. He was dedicated to charity work which included organizing the sponsoring of numerous parties for the elderly in retirement homes and the delivery of countless meals to the homebound elderly for several years. For eight years, he served as the community services chairman of the Kenner Rotary and was a member for forty-five years until his health forced him to resign. He was a member of the Mulholland Methodist Church in Metairie for fifteen years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11:00am Thursday, January 4th 2018 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA.
