Danell Fogarty Barrett passed away on October 4, 2026. She will be remembered with deep love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose faith, kindness, strength, and generous spirit touched the lives of so many.
Danell was a graduate of Redemptorist High School, Class of 1968. She went on to build a long and fulfilling career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, where she worked for 41 years before retiring. She took great pride in her work, was grateful for the opportunities it provided for her family and treasured the many friendships she formed throughout her career.
She was a proud member and past president of the 11th Ward Ladies Social Club and a longtime member of her Thursday night Pok-E-Keno group, where she shared years of laughter, friendship, and memories with women who became like family.
Danell truly never met a stranger. She had a warm and welcoming spirit, an unforgettable personality, and a natural way of making people feel seen, cared for, and at home in her presence. She loved people, valued her friendships deeply, and was blessed with many wonderful friends throughout her life.
Above all else, Danell’s greatest love was her family. They were the center of her world, the source of her greatest pride, and the blessing she treasured most. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, John B. Barrett; her children, Kenny Lynn, J.R. Barrett, and Megan Barrett; and her beloved grandchildren, Cameron Eve, Landen Caleb, and Jack Anthony, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
She is also survived by her sister, Lisa Fogarty Kirsch; her brother-in-law, Paul Salassi; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emelda Miller Fogarty and Daniel A. Fogarty Jr.; her sister, Paulette Salassi; her brother, Daniel A. Fogarty III; and her brother-in-law, David J. Kirsch.
Danell’s faith was a constant foundation in her life. She prayed faithfully for the people she loved, carried their joys and worries in her heart, and found comfort in knowing her family remained close and cared for one another through all seasons of life. The strength of that faith, and the love she poured into her family, will remain part of her legacy for generations to come.
Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express, but so, too, does the love she leaves behind. Her family will forever carry her laughter, her strength, her prayers, her stories, and the countless memories of a life filled with love, friendship, and devotion.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds peace in knowing that her faith has carried her home and that she now rests in the presence of the Lord.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA 70006, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Leitz-Eagan Chapel. A private family inurnment will take place later at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
Danell’s life was a blessing, her love was a gift, and her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
