

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Danny William Schmitt on January 17, 2025. Born on March 7, 1944, to the late Carl Luca Schmitt and Wilhelmina McGovern Schmitt, Danny led a life that was as vibrant as it was full of adventure.
A proud Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War, Danny’s resilience was a hallmark of his character. After his military service, he dedicated himself to the trades as a plumber, becoming a respected member of the Local 60 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. Danny took great pride in his work, known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship that left a lasting impact on those who knew him professionally.
In addition to his career, Danny was a passionate dancer and co-owner of San-Dan Ballroom Studio, which he ran with his beloved wife Sandra. As a dance instructor and choreographer, he shared his love for dance with the community, helping countless students find joy and confidence on the dance floor. His studio became a vibrant hub for dance enthusiasts, and Danny’s infectious enthusiasm inspired many to embrace the rhythm of life. He was also a member of the Variety Dance Club Inc., where he formed lasting friendships through countless nights of dancing and laughter.
Danny's love for dance was evident in the way he moved, and whether it was a lively west coast swing or a classic waltz, he embraced each moment with joy. His vivacious spirit and ability to connect with others made him the life of the party, lighting up every event with his presence.
Danny is survived by his wife, Sandra Crochet Schmitt, two children, the late Rhett James Schmitt and Stacey Schmitt Marchese, along with her husband, Anthony. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Leigha Cooley and Brianne Cortez, four great-grandchildren and his godchild Sandy Schmitt Herman. Danny’s most recent companion, his beloved dog Prince, will miss him dearly, along with the memory of his late dog Eddie, who was a steadfast friend and faithful companion for many years. Eddie brought immeasurable joy to Danny's life, and together they shared many adventures that Danny cherished.
He is survived by one sister, Donna Schmitt Jones, and is preceded in death by one sister, Diane Schmitt Crispino.
Visitation will be observed at Leitz-Eagen Funeral Home in Metairie on January 25, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Chapel of Peace, with a committal service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Humane Society of Louisiana in honor of his legacy.
Danny William Schmitt will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, his love for dance, and the indelible mark he left on the hearts of those who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
