OBITUARY

David B. "Big Dave" Hervey

August 8, 1954February 13, 2020

David B. “Big Dave” Hervey passed away on February 13, 2020 at the age of 65. He is the loving husband of Mary O. Hervey. Son of the late John McDowell Hervey and Jimmie Lou Hervey. Brother of J. Randall Hervey, Douglas Rick Hervey (Vivian) and Rebecca Hervey. Brother-in-Law of Juanita Landry (John), Michael Guillory, the late Peggy Labit. Proud Uncle of Jennifer K. Bosier (James), Richard T. Hervey (Michelle), Janice Hervey (Robert Norris), Caitlin Alvarez, Anita Obenschain (Scott), the late Rachelle Guillory, Melissa Short (Gene), Rod Rhoto and Autumn Labit. Great Uncle of Susan C. Bosier, Allison Hervey, Rexton and Isabel Obenschain, Sawyer Short, Ronnie and Conner Rhoto. David was a hard worker and dedicated to everything he did. He worked for years at El Chico Restaurant, Tuboscope and Anita’s Smokin Steak Burgers. He had a special touch that made an Anita’s burger what it was. David had a heart of gold and anyone could attest. He always had a way of making everyone around him laugh, either with a perfectly thought-out joke or a great story. David loved to cook and everybody loved his cooking even more. His cooking was a way he enjoyed bringing his family and friends together. As much as he loved cooking, he loved his family time more. David was happily married to Mary for 41 years, they were the love of each other’s life. He also loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. A heartfelt special thanks to his brother Douglas Rick Hervey and his sister-in-law Vivian Hervey for all of their care and compassion in his final months. Big Dave’s joyous smile will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA 70006, on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2PM. Visitation will begin at 11AM. The interment will take place at a later date. To leave a lasting memory of Big Dave, please visit www.LeitzEaganFuneralHome.com

Dave and Mary are a extremely special couple. They opened their home up to my family anytime they needed help, I would say they treated my beautiful daughter Sherri and my granddaughters as their own. Never had to worry when any of the family was staying in the Hervey home, they gave so selflessly.

I had the honor to meet Dave in 2014 and learned about his love for cooking and we became phone buddies thereafter, we could talk and talk about food and recipes.

Dave you will always be remembered for your gift of giving, you have a special place in so many friends and family hearts. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen but always near, still loved, still missed.

May you rest in peace my dear friend!

I met Mr. David when I started working at the bingo hall and then I worked with him and Mary at Anita’s. There was never a dull moment when you were around him. He was always a sweet heart, made Mary and I laugh with his jokes, and I enjoyed the food and sweets that he cooked. He will be forever missed. May you Rest In Peace Dave. ❤️😇

Big Dave never met a stranger. He could get along with just about anyone. The customers loved him at Anita's Smokin' Steakburgers and The St. Charles Room Bingo Hall. Big Dave was my Uncle. We worked together at these 2 businesses. He made the best steak burgers by far, the most delicious coconut pies, and chocolate peanut butter pie. He loved his dogs. He was a faithful and devoted husband. We loved picking on each other, joking around, and laughing. He will be remembered that's for sure. Love, Your 1st Niece

Such sadness feels my heart today. Mary and Dave were known to me as Nanny and Parrain. They were both very good friends to my mom and we're there for her to the very end of her very short years. I remember growing up next to them being so young they made life as neighbors fun. I remember that Parrain had made my sister and I a pair of round wooden swings and hung them in the trees in our back yard. All I know is we loved them so much. Even when it came to my family now allowing us the opportunity to come visit. Even knowing there wasn't much space to house 5 extra people they made the room so we could all enjoy a much needed family reunion for Thanksgiving. Parrain you will be forever missed. In many memories of my both my sister Stephanie and mother Sherri. Get a great many hugs from a couple of your girls. Love you Alyshia!
