OBITUARY

David Wayne Melton

January 15, 1941February 16, 2021

David Wayne Melton, 80, of Kenner, LA passed away peacefully after a two year battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 7:13PM. Beloved husband of Melanie Ann Melton of 43 years. Loving father of Pamela McLaurin-Lee (Rich) of Slidell, LA, Kimberly Walton (Rick) of Rockwall, TX, Andrea Edge (Steve) of Conway, SC, and Adam Schmidt (Laurie) of Metairie, LA. Devoted grandfather of Brian, Nicholas, Jared, Michael, Brynn, AJ and Ethan. Brother of Patricia Melton, Janet Melton-Godwin, and Pamela Melton, he is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and family members. Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Erma Del Berry Whitehead, his father, Cecil “Pat” Melton, brother Jerry Don Melton, and his sister and brother-in-law, Glenda Ann Brown and Milburn Brown. Dave served his country in the US Navy, spending four years on the USS Rochester CA-124 and USS Bennington CV-20 until he was honorably discharged on November 22, 1963. After his time in the military Dave went on to spend his working years in finance, working for companies such as Western Union, CityCorp, American Express, First Data, and Pocket Pass. He was a man of dignity who was always himself, he knew who he was! Dave had a strong work ethic, he never held a grudge, and was a man who understood the meaning of unconditional love. He loved his children, grandchildren, and his dog Baxter. Once meeting Dave, you never forgot him. His sense of humor was golden. He loved to travel and his game of choice was gaming. He loved and adored his doctor, Dr. Monty Glorioso, and he also enjoyed phone conversations with his friends and family. Dave didn’t like to walk, other than walking through life, making people laugh. He was a great man, father, husband, friend, colleague, and now a great angel. He has entered a new city and a new life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass celebrating Dave’s life on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA, at 11:30 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. Burial to follow at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. My heart goes out to my family. I will miss the conversations we had. Especially, about sports. You loved your New Orleans Saints! I think we both thought each other's team was second best, lol. So, we still always managed to cheer each other on. It was evident of your love for your family and your little dog, Baxter. You always were loving and thoughtful to me, Uncle David, and your laugh was absolutely precious and classic. You are loved and will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained an angel. 🙏
