David West, 65, a lifelong New Orleanian, passed away on September 10 at home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. David was born in New Orleans, on September 22,1960 to James and Ursula West. He attended St. Alphonsus Grammar School and Redemptorist High School and went on to spend his career as an electrician and proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Over the years, David worked at some of the places that help make New Orleans the City we love, including the New Orleans Convention Center, the Superdome, and others. David loved to cook and have family and friends around to enjoy it. He was an avid sailor, and a casino aficionado. He had a wonderful sense of humor, an easy laugh, and the kind of personality that could turn an ordinary gathering into a party. If David was there, everyone would have more fun because of it. David is survived by his sister, Deborah West Brown; brother-in-law, Gary Brown; brother, James West; sister-in-law, Janell West; brother, Donald West; niece, Jessica Scalise (Michael); nephew, James West; many beloved Cousins; and his girlfriend and companion of many years, Cynthia Herbert. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cancer Foundation. Burial services will be private and will be handled by Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home and Greenwood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of David’s Life on September 26 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the New Orleans Yacht Club. Come ready to share a story, raise a glass, have a laugh, and celebrate a man who enjoyed life on his own terms. Fond memories and words of condolences may be shared at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.
