Mr. Dominador Doming Paiso Amor

The Honorable Dominador P. Amor February 27, 1920 – June 9, 2010 Dominador Paiso Amor passed away on June 9, 2010 in his home after a lengthy illness. He graduated from the University of the Philippines, Manuel L. Queson School of Law 1948 while working as a stenographer for the Dept. of Justice and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs. He played a key role in establishing the guidelines for Philippine Foreign Affairs Officers, served in WWII in the Philippine Army as Regimental Adjutant & Operations Officer and was part of the underground guerilla movement. After passing the Philippine Bar with one of the highest grades in his class, he worked as an attorney, eventually becoming Chairman of Citizenship Committee 1954-57, Legal & Foreign Affairs Advisor, Philippine Panel, Japanese - Philippine Trade Agreement 1956; President's Representative, Naval Bases Inquiry 1954-57; Acting Chief, Law Division 1957; Defense Counsel, Commissioner, in cases before the Board of Foreign Service. He was promoted to Vice Consul, assigned to the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco 1956, promoted to Consul 1963, Consul in Seattle, Consul General in New Orleans 1968, Career Minister 1971 and retired in 1972 to concentrate on his family's future in the U.S., foregoing an appointment as Ambassador in the Philippines. As a young man in the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, he was President Garcia's favorite chess opponent, and became a rated expert and certified chess tournament director. After his love of chess, he enjoyed gardening his favorite Filipino vegetables, fishing, and playing mahjong, poker & blackjack. Preceded in death by his beloved & devoted wife, Andrea Miguel Amor and his dear sister-in-law, LaPaz Miguel, he is survived by his 10 children, Don Amor, Amador Amor, Bella Amor, Ofelia Amor Peres, Fe Amor Firnhaber, Caridad Amor Bordelon, Divina Amor Rivero, Dominador Amor, Jr., Dulce Amor Favrot, Fedele Amor Heine, their loving spouses, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters Lydia Amor Racpan and Fe Amor de Guia, beloved nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie at 1:00 PM. Visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service. Private interment. Reception from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the family's residence.
