Don is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Dorothy “’Dottie” (Leonard) Derbes, his daughters Devin Derbes and Melissa Derbes, and his grandchildren Jaila Derbes and Juliann Derbes. He is also survived by his siblings Gloria Derbes Jones and David Derbes (Julie); his mother-in-law Olive Folse Leonard; his sister and brothers-in-law Janice Leeper, Cliff Leonard, Jr. (Geraldine), Donald Leonard (Mary), Sheila Hebert (the late Ace), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his son William “Billy” Derbes, his parents, his father-in-law Clifford Leonard, Sr., his brother-in-law Bobby Leonard (Tansey).
Don was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans Metro area. He graduated from John McDonogh Senior High. Throughout his career, Don worked at C.F. Bean and C&C Marine for the better part of his life. In his spare time, Don was an excellent cook and avid fisherman. His hard work ethic and dedication endeared him to many. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a genuine, loyal, and loving man; he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, LA 70006 on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Words of Remembrance beginning at 10:45 AM.
