Dorothy “Dottie” Derise Daugherty passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 after complications of heart surgery earlier in the week. Dottie was born on October 12, 1938 in Jeanerette, LA to the late Drozen Derise and Euphemie Landry. She was a resident of Metairie, LA for over 50 years. She is survived by her children, Darryl Daugherty (Lisa) of Atlanta, GA and Darlene Salinger (Max) of Metairie; and the joy of her life, her two grandchildren, Max and Nicole Salinger. Dottie is survived by her twin brother, Donald Derise (Jan) of Lydia, but was preceded in death by her brother Ed Derise of Houston, TX and sister Delores Rising of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by her long time best friend, Jim Frey of Terrytown. Dottie had been a faithful parishioner of St. Philip Neri in Metairie since its founding in the early 1960s. In 2000 Dottie retired after 32 years of dedicated Federal Civilian Service from the 926th Fighter Wing, Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, New Orleans, LA. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren and working in her yard. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 5:00 pm. Visitation to follow until 9:00 pm. To celebrate her life and winning the battle of breast cancer over 20 years ago, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to New Orleans Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure; 4141 Veterans Blvd., Suite 202; Metairie, LA 70002.

Darlene and Darryl, I was shocked to learn of Dot's passing. She was my neighbor for 45 years, a good friend and buddy. When I moved we kept in touch by phone or email. I talked to her a few days before she went into the hospital. About this time of the year she would make her famous "refrigerator soup" and bring to the Domingos, Moutons and myself. I'll miss her very much. Fred Campfield
