Dorothy Adele Shaw, 93, a life-long resident of the New Orleans area, passed away August 29, 2026. She was born July 10, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late William Raymond Shaw, Sr. and Claire Hennessy Shaw, sister of the late Mary S. Dutilh, the late William R. Shaw, Jr., Marvella Shaw, Cynthia S. Abercrombie, and Elvin J. Shaw.
While “Dorothy” was her legal first name, everyone called her “Dotsy”.
Dotsy received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1956.
Shortly after, she began teaching at Bridgedale Elementary in Metairie. She then taught at Phoebe Hearst Elementary, also in Metairie. While teaching at Phoebe Hearst, she was promoted to Assistant Principle; she remained Assistant Principle until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teacher Association.
She traveled extensively and loved to read.
She is survived by her sisters Marvella and Cynthia, her brother Elvin, eight nephews, six grand-nephews, and six grand-nieces.
Visitation begins at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA. Funeral services, also at Leitz-Eagan begin at 12:30 P.M. There will be a burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery immediately following services.
