Dorothy Jolly Stovall born October 7, 1925 in Atlanta, GA, passed away on December 27, 2018 at the age of 93. She is survived by her loving husband of over 72 years, Lt. Col. (Ret) Thomas Bruce Stovall, Sr. They married February 16, 1946, and went on to have four children: Lt. Col. (Ret) Thomas Bruce Stovall, Jr. (Julia) of Raleigh, NC, Dolly Rowland (Tom), of Houston, TX, Barbara Nones (Edward) of Kenner, LA, and Lt. Col. (Ret) Todd Stovall (Toni) of Dumfries, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Stovall Engert, Julie Rowland Woods, Michael Nones, Victoria Nones, Samantha Stovall, and Sean Stovall, and her one great-grandchild, Finn Woods. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. Jolly Sr. and Walta Iris Swinney Jolly, and her siblings, Herbert H. Jolly, Jr., and Ann Jolly Wilkins.
Dorothy worked as a government secretary during World War II, she belonged to bridge clubs over the years, and was active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan, AL and a member of “The Pathfinders” Sunday School Class until December 2015. She participated with her husband in POW organization events and trips overseas, as well as the 386th Bomb Group trips to Europe and Stovall Family reunions all over the U.S.
She will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother who was a fantastic self-taught cook. She grew beautiful houseplants and did a lot of sewing in her earlier years. Dorothy was an avid follower of the national news and politically active for many years. She enjoyed ceramic classes and created lovely pieces. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she and her husband were very frugal but always had good food on the table and a warm inviting home. Dorothy was extremely devoted to her children and grandchildren, as well as her own parents before their deaths and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, LA, on Thursday, January 3, 2018 beginning at 10 AM with funeral services to take place at 11 AM.
