Edel Richards Richards Perigoni

Edel Richards Perigoni, 100 years of age, entered into heaven on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Chateau de Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Wilbert R. Perigoni and a daughter, Dianne Clare Sclafani. She is survived by a daughter, Judith P. Flechas and her husband Dr. Enrique Flechas of Oxford, MS; a son-in-law, Frank P. Sclafani, Sr. and most devoted granddaughter, Dianne Frances Sclafani. Other grandchildren include: Frank P. Sclafani, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Metairie, LA; Drs. Ricky and wife, Michelle Flechas of Baton Rouge, LA; Eduardo Flechas and wife Ashlee of Flowood, MS; Cristina Speers and husband, John of Memphis, TN; Patricia Hebert and husband Gary of Metairie, LA; Victoria Flechas of Flowood, MS; Jamie Flechas and wife Jennifer of Oxford, MS; and nephew Frank Perigoni and wife, Esther of Slidell, LA. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren: Angelina, John and Frank Sclafani; Meaghan, Madeleine and Robby Flechas; Cooper, Caroline and Riley Flechas; Noah Flechas; Aubrey Speers; and Stinson, Christian, Neal, Olivia and Lance Hebert. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, she was born to Emma Hardigan Richards and Edward Charles Richards on March 23, 1911 and attended McDonogh High School. She retired from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 1976 having served as Cafeteria Manager for St. James Major School for several years and in an administrative position in the Catholic School Lunch Program for the Archdiocese. Many years of her later life were happily spent as a resident of Metairie Manor.

A private service was held at the Chapel of Garden of Memories Funeral Home 4900 Airline Dr., Metairie, LA on Saturday, August 20, 2011, with Rev. Al Bermudez officiating. Interment was at the Garden of Gethsemane with family attending. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the Chateau de Notre Dame, 2832 Burdette Street, New Orleans, LA 70125.
