Born on July 24, 1936, in Zweibrücken, Germany, Edda was the daughter of Jakob and Elfriete Bossert. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, James “Jimmy” Lemoine; her parents; her brother, Manfred Bossert; and her great-granddaughter, Sarah Lemoine.
Edda’s early years were shaped by the hardships of World War II. Her home was destroyed in the bombings, forcing her family to evacuate and later return on foot to their war-torn town. In the years following the war, during a time of peace and rebuilding, she met a young U.S. soldier named James, who would become the love of her life. In 1958, she immigrated to the United States to marry him and begin their family. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1970.
Throughout her life, Edda worked many jobs, though none meant more to her than being a homemaker and mother. She served as a manager at McKenzie’s Bakery and spent many years as an inventory manager for Campo Appliances. In 1989, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a battle she faced with extraordinary courage. Her remarkable recovery gave her the gift of many more years—years in which she watched her grandchildren grow into adults and become parents themselves.
Edda found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She was an avid gardener who could turn any space into something beautiful. She lovingly passed down her German heritage to her grandchildren, especially through baking traditional German Christmas cookies and making Rouladen. Christmas was a treasured tradition the whole family looked forward to every year. She also cherished her time as a member of the German Wine Society, enjoying good wine and the company of friends. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her great-grandchildren, who were truly the apple of her eye.
Edda is survived by her loving children: Michael “Mike” Lemoine (Marcie) of River Ridge; Frieda Lemoine Wilkerson (David) of Mandeville; and David Lemoine of River Ridge. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Nicolle Lemoine Bowman (Perry), Adrienne Wilkerson, Michael Lemoine II (Renee), Jessica Lemoine, and Matthew Wilkerson (Anne Marie). Edda’s spirit will continue to shine through her great-grandchildren: Tristan Wilkerson, Sage Bowman, Jackson Bowman, Indiana Kesling, Anna Lemoine, Paul Lemoine, Arlo Kesling, and Marley Sayler. She is also survived by numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews in both Louisiana and Germany.
A visitation honoring Edda’s life will be held at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service. A repast will be hosted afterward at the home of Nicolle and Perry Bowman in River Ridge, LA.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of Ashton Manor for their excellent care, and a special, deeply grateful acknowledgment to Melvin, Alicia, and Ali of Hospice Specialists of Louisiana for their extraordinary compassion and support.
