Edward Charles Horridge, Jr. born on May 23, 1935, in New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 5, 2025, at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Camille Doskey Horridge of 63 years and is survived by his five children: Stephanie A. Rutter (Jimmy), Edward C. Horridge, III (Lauren), Steven M. Horridge (Julie), Bryan P. Horridge (Julie) and Heath H. Horridge (Jennifer). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Eddie was the son of the late Daisy Rome Horridge and Edward Charles Horridge, Sr. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Kornrumpf, Alice Selle, Yvonne Diliberto, Lois Goodrich, Daisy Brennan, and brothers Arthur “Buddy,” James, Lawrence, Reginald, and Theodore Horridge. He is survived by his brother, Gerard Horridge.
A native of New Orleans and proud graduate of Warren Easton High School, Eddie lived a life marked by excellence, humility, and devotion to family, faith, and community. Eddie’s athletic accomplishments were stuff of legend, so extraordinary they almost seem fictional. In track and field, he was the undefeated, back-to-back State Champion in the broad jump, hop step and jump and javelin, setting records in all three. Though widely recognized as the best high jumper in the state, competition rules limited him to only three events. His performance earned him scholarship offers from prestigious universities including Southern California and Long Beach State.
His athletic excellence extended to the basketball court, where Eddie was named First-Team All-State and ranked among Louisiana’s top scorers and rebounders. Yet, beyond the trophies and records, Eddie’s heart was always bigger than the game. He chose to follow his heart over his athletic career, marrying the love of his life and embarking on a business journey that defined him as much as his sportsmanship.
Eddie spent his entire professional career with the USDA as a systems analyst, demonstrating the same loyalty and discipline that made him a champion in athletics. After 35 years of dedicated service, he retired at the age of 55, leaving behind not only a strong legacy but countless friendships.
Outside of work, Eddie enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends; especially cheering on his children at their sporting events or enjoying card and board games filled with laughter and a competitive spirit. But it was on the water, fishing rod in hand, that Eddie found his true peace. He was more than a skilled angler, he was a student and master of the craft, connecting with something he deeply loved. In the end, Eddie was more than a champion athlete or passionate angler, he was a man of God, a friend, and one who led by example, inspiring those around him with his perseverance, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. His love for his family was profound and will last for generations.
