“Miss Betty,” age 99 years, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 29, 2012. She has joined her husband of 67 years, Wilburn J. “Jimmie” Chabaud in Heaven to happily dance together again.
Betty was born in Pass Christian, MS and has resided in Metairie, LA since 1951.
She graduated from Kohn High School in New Orleans, worked at Syler’s Book Store & was a PBX operator before becoming a homemaker. She was a devoted parent who instilled love, caring and nurturing values in her children. Betty was a Parkway Presbyterian Church member since the 1960s, loved greeting the people each Sunday, and taught in Parkway Preschool until her retirement.
Betty & Jimmie stayed young by ballroom dancing for over 30 years at Fred Astaire’s, Stan & Dan’s, Steve’s Studios, Latinaires, Dance Lovers and Jefferson-Orleans. She competed in Mississippi and Louisiana winning over 20 trophies & ribbons as an amateur. Beloved Mother of Aaron B. Chabaud and wife Terri, grandmother of Kathryn & Victoria Chabaud, of Folsom, LA., daughter Cheryl Chabaud Bradley and husband, Thomas, grandmother of Michelle Bradley Van Zandt (Chris) & great granddaughter Ashleigh Elizabeth of Arlington, TX, Thomas L. Bradley, Jr. of Slidell, LA & Sean E. Bradley of New Orleans. Also survived by granddaughter Deeanne Lau Casey (Matt), great granddaughter, Katelyn, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., granddaughter Lisa Lau Pratt (Rob), great grandson Ryan W. and great granddaughter, Taylor Zane, of Shenandoah, TX, sister-in-law Laura Paul (Washburn, Jr.) and many beloved nieces & nephews.
Predeceased by daughter Elizabeth Z. Lau Miller (Ron) & infant grandson Lau, brothers W. Washburn “Buddy” Paul, Jr., Dumonte “Monty” Paul, sisters Marietta “Dee” Paul Sigler (Jimmy), Helen Paul Brannan (Jack) and parents W. Washburn Paul and Marietta Eberlein Paul.
Thanks to the staff of R & R Home Health and Hospice Compassus for making Betty’s last days more comfortable.
Betty shared sage advice with family & friends, always helped those in need and will be truly missed by all who knew & loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, from Noon until the memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie. Rev. Tom Paine will officiate. Interment will be private in the Parkway Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden at a later date.
