

Ella Caroline Knight Gieseler passed away peacefully with her loving husband by her side. She was 81 years old. Mrs. Gieseler left behind, besides her husband Richard, of 61 years, her son Richard, Jr. (Laurie) and two grandsons Jeffrey Michael (Kelly) and Scott Wesley and two great grandchildren, Lyla Knight and Jeffrey Michael, Jr. Also, her daughter Susan Kay Smith and two granddaughters, Julie Ruth West (Eric) and Amy Caroline Smith (Brandon), two great grandsons, Dylan Thomas West and Ethan Conrad West. Preceded in death by her parents Charles and Cecil Knight. Also survived by many relatives and friends.
Mrs. Gieseler was very active in Metairie Women’s Club, having been a member since 1975 and a past president, she was honored by being selected for the clubs “Outstanding Woman’s Award” in 1984 and life member. Lafreniere Park was another of her “pet” projects. She was a member and past president of the Advisory Board, a member of the Foundation and the founding president of Friends of Lafreniere Park. Mrs. Gieseler was active in many projects of the park and when the Patrons of Lafreniere Park was formed, she served as secretary for the first three years.
Mrs. Gieseler had been a member of the Inner Wheels (wives of members of the Metairie Rotary Club), Cancer Crusaders, Ladies Auxillary, East Jefferson General Hospital Life Member, Metairie Woman’s Club Life member since 1975. East Jefferson Ambassador to the New Orleans Museum of Art and past president of Metairie Literary Guild. She was honored with an award from the East Jefferson Hospital Auxillary, as a “Great Lady” of Jefferson Parish in 1983.
