Emile Sidney Held Jr.

Emile Sidney Held, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2016, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents Emile S. Held, Sr. and Alice Rose Fell Held. Beloved husband of 61 years to his childhood sweetheart, Barbara Sausse Held. Loving father of Penny Held, Pamela Held Windmann (Keith), and Alan Held (Maria). Cherished grandfather of William R. Kingsmill III, Keith Windmann, Jr., Holly Breath Buras (Lawrence), Heidi Windmann Hartings (Jeremy), Nicholas Youga, and Amanda Held. Proud great-grandfather of Andrew Kingsmill, Lawrence Buras V, Landon Buras (D), and Elaine Hartings. Brother of Carolyn Held, Robert Held (D) (Janice), and Deborah Held. Brother-in-law of Gilbert Sausse (D), Eugene Sausse (Judy), and Helen Page Sausse. Also survived by devoted nieces and nephew, Brenda Sausse Levron, Charlene Sausse Penn, and Steven Penn, and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins. A native New Orleanian who retired to Picayune, MS, Emile was a graduate of Fortier High School and Delgado College, where he received an Associate Degree. He was a member of IBEW Local 130 throughout his years at Advance and Atlas Electric. He respectfully served in the Louisiana Army National Guard. Emile enjoyed the simple things in life, like seafood, Jeopardy every day at 6pm, his fig trees, and playing cards with the “old timers.” He loved spending time traveling, especially to Branson and Civil War battle fields across the country, which satisfied his love of history. He was also a member of the Good Ole Metairie Boys’ Club. An avid Tulane fan and collector of stamps and coins, Emile loved life, family, and friends. Always with a smile on his face, a song in his heart, and a joke to be told, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at 10 am – 1 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Metairie, LA 70006.
