

Jane, affectionately known as ‘Gram’ or ‘Aunt Jane’ was born on September 17, 1931. After a very long and fulfilled life, our beloved mom passed on August 15, 2024. She was a native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and a longtime resident of New Orleans, LA and Tampa, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ulla Rose Caroline Nilson and James Pirie Dowrick and her brother, James P. Dowrick, Jr. and her beloved husband, Dr. William Myles Roeling and her son, Christopher Nilson Roeling.
She is survived by her sons, William Pirie Roeling (Dana Landry), Myles Elliott Roeling (Shawn Reilly Tusa), Matthew Robert Roeling and grandchildren, William Myles Roeling, Ryan Christopher Roeling (Julia), Alex Roeling (Casey), Laura Roeling Nowak (Falco), and Blaire Roeling Falcon (Cameron), and great-grandchildren, Emmett Roeling, Harper Roeling, Morgan Roeling, Elaine Roeling, Hayes Falcon, and Joyce Nowak, Gabriel Tusa, Rubin Tusa, Gray Tusa, Quinn Tusa, Ruth Burke, Fiona Tusa and Cyrus Tusa. She is also survived by her brother’s son, James Dowrick (Shannon Howard) and son, Pirie and a sister-in-law, Bette Roeling Stoelzing and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was a graduate of New Cumberland High School class of 1949, Newcomb College and University of New Orleans – 1997, with a Bachelor of Arts degree at age 65. She was always proud to say she graduated from college and received Social Security in the same year.
She was an exemplary sister, wife, mother, aunt, great aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She embodied the best qualities; unconditional love, strength of spirit, resilience and an unending generosity that could be seen in all her relationships. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will forever cherish Gram’s stories and wisdom.
Jane was a devout Catholic and lived by those guiding principles. She was a volunteer at St Rita of Cascia and Chateau de Notre Dame, New Orleans, LA and recognized for her years of service by receipt of the Order of St Louis medal from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. While living in Tampa, she was a member of St Paul Catholic Church in Carrollwood. She was known for her love of family gatherings and taught us how to entertain in the style in which she was accustomed. She loved traveling the world with her husband, Bill. She was an avid lover of animals as evidenced by her many rescue dogs, cats and even her beloved seagull, Jonathan Livingston.
Mom, we will celebrate and speak your name for generations to come!
Services to honor the life of Emilie Jane Roeling will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St Rita Catholic Church located at 2729 Lowerline St, New Orleans, LA 70125.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, she will be interred at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery #2, 1401 Louisa St, New Orleans, LA 70117.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Leitz Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd. Metairie, LA 70006.
