Ethel Mae Smedley Kuhn

It is with sweet sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Ethel Mae Smedley Kuhn. She went to heaven on Thursday morning, June 17, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years young. Beloved wife of 59 years to the late Thaddeus H. Kuhn Sr. Loving mother of Thaddeus H. Kuhn Jr., Deborah K. Lohan (James), Michael J. Kuhn, Carol K. Hotard (Alvin), Susan K. Constant (Joseph), and Robin K. Acrey (Dennis). Adoring grandmother of Thaddeus H. Kuhn III, Brian P. Dwyer (Joan), Tara H. Sibal (the late James), Bridget D. Wilkerson, Rachael M. Constant, Tabitha A. Wells (David), Alvin Hotard III (Christina), Traci H. Bunce (Heath), Forrest D. Acrey Jr., Joseph G. Constant III (Jessica), Diana N. Kuhn, Brandon M. Kuhn, and Julie E. Constant. Great-grandmother of Leanna, Kayne, Jacob, Logan, Catherine, Hazel, Sean, Mason, Elizabeth, Henley, Layton, Olivia, Ian, Brady, Jaxon, Violet, Stella, Natalie, Garrett, Lukas, Evan, Grant, Bailor, Luna, and Joseph. Great-great grandmother of Isabella and Leo. Daughter of the late James and Lillian Fichter Smedley. Sister of Joyce Cline and the late Verena S. Ferger, Shirley Smedley, and Audrey S. Sahuque. Mom was born on March 1, 1926 on Chippewa Street in the Irish Channel of New Orleans. She attended Redemptorist Girls High School on Third and Prytania Streets and graduated in May of 1944 and married our dad on September 9, 1946. She worked as a Claims Specialist at Blue Cross and retired in 1986 after many dedicated years of service. Mom's greatest love was gathering her family together, and had a tremendous devotion to her faith. The love of her faith was evident in the many years that she brought the Blessed Francis Seelos cross to the sick and dying. She loved music and movies, most especially opera and classic films. In lieu of flowers, Masses or contributions to a charity of your choice are preferred. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at ST. CHRISTOPHER THE MARTYR, 309 Manson Avenue, Metairie, on Monday afternoon, June 21, 2021 at 1:00. Visitation will begin in church at 11:00 in the morning. Dear Robin,

Your mother certainly lived her faith and the education she receive for the Sisters of Mercy at Redemptorist Girls High School enriched her faith. Those who graduated from this school went on to do their job well and a little bit more. You mother will always be with you and watch over all of her family.
