    Although I am not related to Ferd I always considered him my uncle.  I have such fond memories of him as a child, teenager & as an adult.  We always had fun together no matter what the activity- family get togethers, holidays, wrestling matches, bumper pool, ping pong, vacations, & parades. Ferd truly loved taking us to the parades.
     Ferd also took me to my first Saint pre-season game in Tiger Stadium in baton rouge, la in 1967-very exciting.  I have been a loyal Saints fan for the past 47 years & I owe that love to Ferd.
     Ferd gave me my first job right out of high school in 1967 working in payroll dept at USDA.  I did not know it at the time that I would make it my career.  I had a wonderful & successful career at USDA-National Finance Center & I will always be grateful for the opportunity that Ferd gave me.
     I worked with Ferd for 8 years until his retirement.  It was a great experience working with him & for him.
     Through all the hard work that we endured with payroll projects, overtime, & deadlines Ferd always kept his cool demeanor & made the work experience enjoyable & bearable.
     Over the years Ferd hired a lot of young people for summer employment.  He knew this would help with their college expenses.
     Few people realize that Ferd was at the very beginning of the payroll office for USDA over 60 years ago.
     The federal govt was looking for its office to be centrally located & New Orleans was selected.
     Ferd was selected to be on the design & implementation team.  He was later selected to be Payroll Section Chief- a position he held until he retired in 1975. Ferd supercised about 35 employees & was responsible for the payroll to be processed on a timely bi-weekly timeframe for about 100,000 employees- a huge responsibility.
     Although technology has changed over the years the roots of that system are still intact & will be forever- thank you Ferd for your hard work & dedication during those difficult years.
     The payroll office at USDA-National Finance Center currently processes over 650,000 on a bi-weekly basis.
     Thanks for all those cherished memories, thanks for my successful career, & most of all I am proud to call you my "Uncle Ferd"

Your Dad will be sorely missed by all who knew him. I'm glad to have known him and the two boys he raised to be good men, like him. Your Dad was truly a gentleman in every sence of the word.
I'm sorry to have missed the funeral, as I was out of town.
