Flora Maria Labarca died peacefully on April 6, 2021. Born in Santiago, Chile, she was the daughter to the late Silverio Labarca and Ema Gonzalez and granddaughter to the late Emiliano Gonzalez and Sarah Fornes and Maria Luisa and Esteban Labarca.
Flora first came to the USA when she was in high school and later returned to Chile to finish school, focusing her studies in accounting and business administration at the University in Santiago, Chile.
She volunteered at Tulane Medical Center, Animal Rescue of New Orleans (ARNO) and the New Orleans Museum of Art. She worked at Tulane University for many years in different departments and was a member of Tulane Women’s Association (TUWA) until her passing.
She was also a member of the New Orleans Tourist and Hotel & Motel Association where she proudly represented the city of New Orleans in many parts of the world including: Spain, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Austria, France, Japan, China, Korea, Portugal, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Switzerland among many other places.
Animals were always welcomed in her heart. She loved dogs, especially her beloved “Baron.” She also enjoyed painting and giving away her talented works of art.
Flora resided in River Ridge for 53 years and loved her neighbors and neighborhood very much. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church. Her faith was most important to her; she believed that Jesus was Christ, the son of God who came to save us.
Private interment will take place at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery and Mass will be held at St. Matthew the Apostle Church in River Ridge on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 11AM. Visitation will begin at 10:30AM. Please visit www.LeitzEaganFuneralHome.com to sign the online guestbook.
