Frederick “Fred” William Manthey, age 81, passed away May 29th, 2025, with his devoted wife Alicia Mendez Manthey by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thomas Manthey, and brothers Tommy, Terry, Timmy and Tracy.
He was the loving father of Troy Michael Manthey (Jill), Tristan Edwards Manthey (Melissa), Tisbee Jane Dantin (Dirk) and Tatiana del Pilar Manthey. He was the proud Papa Fred to Lindsey Easley (Ross), Gracie Mae Manthey, Jack Manthey, Grant Manthey, Patrick Manthey, Maddux Dantin, Britton Dantin, Louis Cyr and a Great-Papa Fred to Beau Easley. He is also survived by his sisters Jan Dugan, Jill Purkey, June Bristol, Joy Manthey and Jaye Manthey.
He was a proud Air Force Veteran who served his country as an Air Traffic Controller for four (4) years. Upon completion of his service commitment, Fred served as an Aviation Meteorologist for the Federal Aviation Administration for over 25 years in New Orleans, Louisiana, San Juan Puerto Rico, and finally, DeRidder, Louisiana. He was a union rep for NAATS for Deridder Airport.
Fred’s passion for Mardi Gras was unmatched. Fred was an avid parade goer, and would often catch parades in Chalmette, Metairie and downtown in the same night. All the neighborhood kids were invited to pile into the car. Fred was also a member of numerous parades, including: Endymion, Jason, Romulus & Remus, Venus, Elks and Freret. Fred also enjoyed marching in St. Patrick’s Day parades with Terrance Corner.
When he moved to DeRidder, Louisiana, Fred became a true “country boy.” Over several years, Fred built his house virtually by himself. Fred became a great horseman at one time amassing as many as thirteen horses. Fred never rode his horses; he just enjoyed being around them. Upon retirement, Fred worked his land and fed his horses daily. It was a full time job, but kept him active. He loved walking his property with his faithful dog - Max.
We would like to thank The Blake and CARE Hospice for their great care of Fred in his last year of life.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org in Fred’s name. #endalz
