

Gary Lenhardt McClay, age 65, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, PA. Native of New Orleans and Lake Charles, LA. Beloved husband of Anne Blais McClay. Loving father of Heather McClay Young (Scott). Proud grandfather of Jacob and Meghan Young. Son of the late Elmer and Jane (Lang) McClay. Brother of David McClay (Christine). Uncle of Adam and Matthew McClay. Also survived by Brothers in Law Gerard Blais and Robert Blais (Jean), nieces and nephews: Jamie, Jason, Nicolas, Nicole Blais and Shelley Blais Barreca. Gary served in the US Navy aboard the USS Nathan Hale MM3(SS) (submarine ) from 1964-1968. Gary joined Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office where he served for 20 years until his retirement as a Sergeant in the Narcotics Division. Gary’s career then took him to US Customs in 1987 where he served our country as an Inspector and Senior Inspector for 23 years until his retirement in 2010 as Port Director in Lake Charles, LA. Gary was honored by the Commissioner of Customs of the United States of America with U.S. Customs Performance Award for his accomplishments and achievements contributing to the overall success of the Contraband Enforcement Team in New Orleans. Gary was well revered as an instructor with the Carrier Initiative Program - CTPAT where he taught procedures on behalf of U.S. Customs in countries around the world. Throughout his career he received numerous awards for his contributions to the service of his country. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Leitz- Eagan 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie, La 70006 on Saturday July 14th, 2012 at 12pm.
