Gary was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Gaspar J. (Buddy) Stall and Margaret Mire Stall. He is survived by his devoted wife Yvonne Teresa Collazo of San Juan, Puerto Rico, his children, Gary M. Stall, Jr., Christopher M. Stall, Kay L. (Brandon) Hummel, and Rita E. Frilot, and eight loving grandchildren. Also, his sisters Peggy (Jim) Hastings, Laurie (Paul) Rasmus, his brother Kirt Stall, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Gary graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1972, before attending Louisiana State University. He focused his career on the Hospitality industry for more than 30 years. Gary and his wife Yvonne moved around the country working in major Hospitality destinations for 20 years, residing in Orlando, Las Vegas, Nashville, Atlanta, and San Diego. In addition to enriching his Hospitality career, Gary always said he had become wealthy with so many friends, having made many life-long personal and professional relationships around the country. Upon returning to New Orleans, Gary owned and operated biscuits & buns on banks, a popular eatery in Mid-City. Under Gary’s proprietorship, biscuits & buns received numerous positive reviews and accolades including the “10 best biscuits in the South by USA Today”, a mention which made Gary very fulfilled. Gary was also extremely gratified by his role as an active member and contributor to the Esophageal Cancer Connections, a support group by Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association. He touched numerous cancer patients in this group with his encouraging message to ”NEVER GIVE UP”.
Gary was a great family man, a loving father, and grandfather. He was a huge football fan and a proud member of the Who Dat Nation. He was a great cook, sharing his love of New Orleans’ cuisine all around the country. He was an excellent entertainer and the life of the party. Gary was an aficionado of daytime judge shows, enjoying The People’s Court and Judge Judy, but not Judge Jerry. He was extremely proud of his knowledge of Spanish, albeit limited, being able to announce every time the “gato was in the casa”. Gary loved Life and Life reciprocated!
Anyone who knew Gary was touched by his kindness, sense of fairness, integrity, and positivity. He was a great friend, mentor, and adviser to many. He made many friends along the way and was the one on whom you could always count. Gary had a sense of humor and a smile that lit up any room. He cared fiercely and deeply and had a huge heart. Gary will be remembered every day by his family and friends, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace surrounded by peace, light and dear loved ones already gone.
A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi, 628 State Street, New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Mass. Inurnment will follow the mass at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery, next to Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home, at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association – EC Aware, an organization Gary felt strongly about. Details for your donation are here – https://www.ecaware.org/give/donate/. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.LeitzEaganFuneralHome.com for the Stall family.
