George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Andrew Louis Hoffman and Diana T. Schexnyder Hoffman. He graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1955. Following high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a reservist for several years.
He retired at the age of 82 from Melco Steel, Inc. George was also a former employee of Orleans Material & Equipment Company, American Steel, and Pan American Life Insurance Company, where he met his first love, Frances. He was also the past president of The Clearview Lions Club.
He married his sweetheart of 47 years, the late Frances Baiamonte Hoffman. Following her passing, he remarried his devoted wife, Gail Schaff Hoffman, with whom he shared another 18 wonderful years.
He is survived by his children: Sandra Hollis Henderson (Tanya), George Joseph Hoffman, Jr. (Michele), Donna Pellerin (Spellman), and Ryan Anthony Hoffman (Tammy); and by his stepchildren: Debra Seeger (Don), Michelle Carrier (Kevin), and Steven Sales.
Our dad will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His family was his pride and joy, and his greatest role in life was being a “Pawpaw.” He showed unconditional love to those around him and always made sure to say “I love you” more than once, “be careful,” and “call me when you get home.” He provided love, guidance, and security to his family and never hesitated to help anyone in need. His spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
George is also survived by his siblings Diana T. Angelo and Raymond Leonard Hoffman; grandchildren Drew Hollis (Victoria), Victoria DeRoche (Joshua), Angelle Hayes (Tanner), Spellman Pellerin III (Ashlynn), Delaney Hoffman, and Jace Hoffman; and great-grandchildren Heidi Hollis, Daisy Hollis, Lily Griffin Curtis, Sawyer DeRoche, Slade DeRoche, Audri Hayes, Levi Hayes, and Paisley Pellerin.
George was the brother-in-law to Josephine Baiamonte Mott, Diane Baiamonte Luparello (Lester), Deborah Atchley Baiamonte, Theresa Baiamonte Raffray (George), and Michael Baiamonte (Florence).
Preceded in death by: son-in-law William Terry Hollis, brother Andrew Louis Hoffman, Jr.; brothers-in-law Vincent Baiamonte, Santo Baiamonte, Jr., and Ronald Adam Angelo, Sr.; sister-in-law Nancy Baiamonte and Angie Hoffman, stepson Michael Sales; father-in-law Santo Baiamonte Sr., mothers-in-law Santa (Sannie) Calderone Baiamonte, and Josephine LaCiura Baiamonte.
