Gerard Joseph Mackin, 68, of River Ridge, LA went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017. He was born in Baltimore, MD, and attended Marquette University. Gerard was a Chef at the N.O. Superdome, Harrah’s Casino, Treasure Chest Casino, and Le Parvenu Restaurant in Kenner. He enjoyed cooking for his family, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed keeping up with politics. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Mackin; two sisters Margaret Mackin Ruth of Towson, MD and Michaeline Mackin O’Neill of Baltimore, MD; sister-in law Jane Terminie of Meraux; three step-children Deborah Wiggins (Danny) of Metairie, Barbara Boner (Randy) of Harahan, and Joseph Lesslie, III of Harahan; step-grandchildren Crystal Roddy (Cody), Nikki Wiggins, Shannon Lesslie, and Randy Boner, Jr.; step-great grandchildren Maci Chatelain and Beaux Roddy; step-nephews Robbie Terminie of Meraux, and Kevin Sanchez (Laura) of Slidell; and a host of nieces and nephews of the Baltimore, MD area. He is preceded in death by his Parents Catherine Gillooly Mackin and Francis Michael Mackin of Baltimore; brother Michael J. Mackin of Baltimore; and Catherine Patricia "Cassie" Mackin of Baltimore. He cherished his family from Baltimore and had a special bond with his nephew, Michael J Mackin, Jr., and friend Nelson Coffin. He was also especially proud of his late sister, Cassie Mackin’s accomplishment of being the first woman journalist to serve as a network television floor reporter at the national political conventions in 1972. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial gathering at St. Rita Church, 7100 Jefferson Hwy., Harahan, LA on Friday, March 17, 2017 beginning at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 12:00 noon.
