Gloria Glenn Cline, born February 17, 1934, passed away peacefully at her home in River Ridge on June 17, 2026. Gloria, born in West Helena, Arkansas, was preceded in death by her mother, Kathron Presley Cline; her father, John Frank Cline; her sister, Frances Maxwell; and her brother, William Cline. She is survived by a niece, Rae Lynn Bastable and her nephews, Scott Bastable and Sammy Maxwell, all of Texas. She leaves behind many cousins, lifelong friends, aspiring athletes, admiring students, teachers she mentored, and her dear friend, Anita Pence.
Gloria cherished her many pets over her lifetime. She enjoyed fishing, and she loved teaching. Gloria was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, and for many years, volunteered at the MIR Group.
Gloria graduated from Kenner High School and earned a BS and an MS in Education from LSU. She taught health and physical education and coached at West Jefferson High School and L. W. Higgins High School for over 27 years. She served for many years as head of the Physical Education Department at Higgins and was recognized as Teacher of the Year by Jefferson Parish Schools. She also served as a dormitory counselor for the Department of Defense Schools in France and Spain.
Gloria believed that physical education was a vital part of school and life. She believed that physical education was more than giving students a ball to bounce around and put in a net. She was instrumental in the development of a physical education curriculum that offered life skills in sports and activities such as aerobics, tennis, bowling, pickleball, dancing, camping, gymnastics, and health.
Family and friends are invited to attend her services at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie, on Monday, June 29, 2026. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass in the Leitz-Eagan Chapel.
