Gustave "Gus" Julius Heitzmann

Gustave “Gus” Julius Heitzmann, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 1, 2015. Mr. Heitzmann was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Metairie, LA. Beloved husband of Ila Hamar Heitzmann for 70 years. Father of Lois H. Orillion, Gail H. Neal (Gary) and Marsha H. Morriz (Tony). Grandfather of Jason Orillion, Jeremy Simmons (Amy) and Lindsay Spears (Josh). Great grandfather of Emily Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Noah Spears, Stephanie Benitez and Jacob Benitez. Son of the late Gustave Peter Heitzmann and Julia Ebert Heitzmann. Brother of the late Irvin Heitzmann, Florence Mix, Agnes Caruso and Myrtle Brunner. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Heitzmann served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was stationed in Casper, WY where he met his bride. Mr. Heitzmann worked as an aircraft mechanic at Lakefront and New Orleans International Airports for many years. He loved his family, friends, neighbors and fixing things. He will be deeply missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Thursday, February 5, 2015 beginning at 11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, St. Rose, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Atonement Lutheran Church, 6500 Riverside Drive, Metairie, LA 70003 or to the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter.
