Irene Mary Agnes Tassin Burgess

Irene Mary Agnes Tassin Burgess, a beloved resident of Covington, Louisiana, was born and raised in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late Willis Joseph Tassin and the late Virginia Mary Tassin.

Irene was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, James Paul Burgess, with whom she shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, faith, and countless cherished memories.

She was a loving mother to Angela C. Baham (Richard Baham) and Ellen B. Trosclair (David Trosclair), and a treasured grandmother to Cullen Trosclair (Savannah Trosclair), Emily Burgess (Preston Rowell), Kalyn Trosclair, Jessica Burgess (Sarah Bievenour), and James Burgess II. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Annsley Rowell, Nova Trosclair, Adaline Rowell, and Memphis Trosclair.

Irene is survived by her sisters, Faith Gunnison (John) and Kim Ercole (Frank), and was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Tassin. She was a cherished Godmother to Jennifer Hernandez-Todd, Melissa Ercole, and Victoria Hughes. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, family friends, and extended family.

Irene was a fun-loving, friendly, and beautiful soul who never met a stranger. Wherever she went, she had a way of making everyone feel like family. She welcomed people with a hug, a kiss, and kind words that made them feel special and loved. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She treasured time with her family and friends, especially gatherings filled with good food, laughter, dancing, and memories. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely and always put first.

Her Love for God

Above all, Irene loved God with all her heart. Her faith was an important and beautiful part of who she was. She trusted in God’s love and carried that faith throughout her life, sharing it through the kindness, compassion, forgiveness, and unconditional love she showed others.

Irene wanted those around her to know the love of God as well. She leaves behind not only the memories of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, but also a beautiful example of what it means to love God and others wholeheartedly.

Irene was a longtime employee of Standard Coffee, The Reilly Company, where she was known for the same warmth and friendliness that defined her everywhere she went.

To know Irene was to love her. Her hugs, kisses, laughter, kindness, and unconditional love will never be forgotten. The impact she made on her family, friends, coworkers, and even complete strangers will live on through every person she touched.

Though our hearts are broken and life will never be the same without her, we find comfort knowing that Irene is now in the presence of the God she loved so dearly, free from pain and surrounded by eternal peace.

Her family will forever cherish every memory, photograph, voicemail, laugh, hug, and moment they were blessed to share with her.

Rest peacefully, Irene. Your earthly work is done. Your love will live on forever, and your beautiful soul will never be forgotten. Until we meet again.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA on Saturday morning, September 26, 2026 beginning at 9:00 AM with a Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 AM in Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home’s chapel.
