James P. Daigre, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Friday, December 20, 2013. Beloved husband of 54 years to the late Camille Barry Daigre. He is survived by his six children, Jay Daigre, Jr. (Janice), Kenny Daigre (Faye), Craig Daigre (Liesa), Ronnie Daigre (Evelyn), Debbie Bassil (Peter) and Diane Gatti (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Suzette (Ryan), Shannon (Adriane), Jared (Stacie), Darah (Andrew), Jeremy, Nicole (Johnny), Laura (Cody), David (Michelle), Keith (Christine), Crissy (Steven), Beau (Whitney), Blake, Britt, Sean (Jessica), Kayla (Brandon), Kelli and James, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Brennan, Laney, Bryce, Lily, Layla, Gracie, Braxxtyn, Nate, Luke, Liam, Maren, Eve, Kyle, Staci, Jenna and Isabella; his sister, Patricia Knipper and his wife by second marriage, Joyce Daigre. He was preceded in death by his parents, Heno and Katherine Daigre, his brother, Heno Daigre and his sister, Aurelia Bigner. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Daigre was born in New Orleans, LA, raised uptown in St. Stephen’s Parish and has been a resident of Metairie, LA since 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Daigre retired from NOPSI (Entergy). He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church since 1950 and served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher, offerings counter and Adoration Adorer. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Radio Rosary Guild and the Knights of Columbus. For his service to the church, he received the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion. He also received a Special Apostolic Blessing from His Holiness John Paul, II. Mr. Daigre was an avid LSU baseball and football fan. He enjoyed bowling most of his life and relished Louisiana seafood. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie, LA on Thursday evening, December 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Friday morning, December 27, 2013 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd. in Metairie beginning at 11:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered or a memorial contribution may be made to the charity of your choice.
