James A. Eckert

James A. Eckert passed away peacefully in his sleep August 19, 2022 while residing at Peristyle Richland Avenue. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 21, 1950 to Philip A. Eckert and Mary Haines Eckert and had two siblings, Philip H. Eckert and Judy A. Eckert.

Jim was a long time resident of New Orleans owning Eckert Construction Company and worked on many familiar New Orleans landmarks including Tipitina’s, House of Blues, projects in Jax Brewery and Gene Gableman’s Kilwin’s Fudge Shop. An award was given to him by the Historic District Landmark Commission for the best historic renovation of the 1990’s. He won the award for his work on the Smith and Wollensky’s Restaurant, now Walk On’s. When not working, Jim loved being with his grandchildren, woodworking, deep sea fishing and being with his dog Millie.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Phil Eckert (Ginna) and his sister Judy Eckert (Jim Anthony), two children Shannon Singley (Chris) and Kaylen Eckert (Erin Canfield) and five grandchildren Georgia, Rylee, Marley, Jack and Eva.

Jim leaves behind numerous close friends who will be notified of a memorial tribute to be held at a later date.
