

Loving stepfather of Debra P. Border (Rick), Elizabeth P. Gaddis (Jim) and father of Catherine Carroll (Charles), Elizabeth Fleming (late, Rod), Timothy Fondren, and is preceded in death by his son Andrew J. Fondren. A proud grandfather of Matthew Lamp, Bethany Lamp and Westly Gaddis. Son of the late Dorthea Kyle Fondren and James Baxter Fondren and brother of the late Patricia Phillips.
James is also survived by his former wife, H. Marie Fondren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Age 79, a native of Morgan City, LA and a resident of River Ridge for many years.
James was a Cryptographer in the U.S. Army in the Special Liaison Office, a graduate of
McNeese University with a BS in Horticulture and graduated from LSU with a BS in Landscape Architecture. He was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and received the highest honor bestowed for work achieved, Fellow (FASLA). He volunteered his time with the Magnolia School Foundation for 40 years and served as President of the foundation for 3 years.
The family of James would like to thank the Reverend Jeff Conner and the care team at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. Also a thank you to the staff in the ICU at East Jefferson General Hospital and to the staff of River Region Hospice, who were angels in caring for James.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St. Metairie, LA on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:30 pm. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until funeral time. Memorial donations in his memory to the Magnolia School, 100 Central Ave., Jefferson, LA 70121 or a charity of your choice.
