

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Dean Lanner, who left this world on Monday, June 2, 2025. James was a remarkable soul whose kind spirit and unwavering love touched the lives of many. James was the son of the late Barbara Fernau Lanner and James Joseph Lanner and was also predeceased by his brother, Mark Lanner. He is survived by his wife, Janice Malone Lanner; his sister, Dawn Lanner, and his brothers, Gregory and Stephen Lanner. He was a devoted husband of 41 years to Janice, a loving father to Kaitlyn Capella (Ben) and a cherished grandfather to Theodore James and Margot Rose Capella. James was an affectionate uncle, a dear brother-in-law, and a beloved cousin. His warmth and generosity made him a treasured friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For over 40 years, James was a valued, respected and successful sales representative for Bolick Distributors. James will be remembered for his profound love of family and friends, as well as his passions for music, fishing, and gardening. He had an innate ability to bring joy to those around him through his vibrant personality, often sharing laughter and creating lasting memories with his astounding breadth of knowledge and uncanny recall of innumerable topics.
A celebration of James' life will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie, on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring the legacy of a man who will be deeply missed by all who loved him. In our sorrow, we find comfort in the countless memories he left behind, and we will carry his spirit with us always.
