James C. Ligon, Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on November 25, 2015 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and family. Jim was born in New Orleans on June 15, 1941 to James Ligon, Sr. of New Orleans and Frances Parrish Ligon of Repton, Alabama and resided in Metairie in the home he built and shared with his loving wife Patricia of 52 years. He was strong in his Catholic faith, dedicated to his family and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jim was a passionate member of the Marine Corps League for 30 years. He held various officer positions including Commandant in the Paul E. Boyd Detachment, and was a founding member of the League’s honor society, the Metairie Devil Dogs serving as Dog Robber (Secretary and Treasurer) since society inception. He also held various positions at the state level. Jim received many awards including Marine of the Year (Paul E. Boyd Detachment), Pound Dog Robber of the Year (state level), and National Pound Dog Robber of the Year. He worked in the family electrical business for most of his career. Jim’s generosity embodied his Catholic faith as he was selfless with his time, talents and treasures. Jim is survived by his wife Patricia DeRouen, brother John P. Ligon and his wife JoAnn, and sister Cheryl Frances Ligon, sons James and girlfriend Audrey of Kansas City, MO. and their pet “The Moose”, and Michael, his wife Aimee of Sugar Land, TX., and their seven children Alexandra, Alysse, Chase, Grant, Ian, Jude and Dominic.
