James “Pete” Peters was born on July 15, 1933, and departed this world on September 24, 2021. One of the last great patriarchs, he leaves behind a family that adored him and will miss him dearly. Pete was a first generation American of Albanian parents who loved America and dearly valued liberty and freedom. He served our country in the military, and that is how he met his wife, Jane, in New Orleans at a military party. Together they made their life in New Orleans where they dedicated themselves to raising their family. Pete was a devoted employee of Winn-Dixie, even going above and beyond his regular responsibilities to thwart a crime spree for which he was awarded a key to the city of New Orleans. Pete loved animals and was a compassionate caregiver to many dogs during the course of his long life. Pete was a great man, always ready to help those in need and a fierce protector of his family. He loomed larger than life and leaves behind a legacy of love and respect.
Pete is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Faulk Peters, his parents, Louis and Martha Peters, and his brothers Alex and Johnny Peters. He is survived by five siblings, Virginia, Rita, Shirley, Barbara, and Louie, his three children, Marilyn Porter, Elizabeth Antin (Karl Morgan), and Chris Peters (Karen), his ten grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
