

Janice is preceded in death by her mother, Stella Peck, father, Thomas Dempsey Duke, and brother, Kelvin Duke.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John Leckert Jr., her sons, Bradley (Suzanne), Jason (Michelle) and John III, and her beloved grandchildren, Monet, Etienne, Mary Claire, Henry, and Eloise. She is also survived by her siblings, Carolyn Duke, Angela Ferrara, Thomas Ivan Duke, and Terry Duke, her step-father, Phil Peck, and aunt, Brenda Badeaux.
Janice graduated from Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge and University of Louisiana Lafayette. She enjoyed having an active social life and was a member of the Cancer Crusaders, St. Ann Church Altar Society, Ladies Leukemia League, Master Gardeners of Greater New Orleans, the New Orleans Garden Society, and many bridge groups. Her children were her pride and her husband her rock, but she loved her grandchildren to the moon and back. She relished in taking them shopping, going on trips to the beach, and forming special bonds with each of them. Janice was known for her beautiful gardens and could often be found in her yard doing nighttime gardening. She will be remembered for her feisty personality and her passion for being late, but also her amazing cooking and her sweet tooth. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 3601 Transcontinental Dr. Metairie, LA. Visitation will be held from 10AM – 11:30AM with a memorial Mass to begin at 11:30AM. Inurnment will follow at St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
